The Nail Challenge Collaborative April 2013 Manicure #1

This April I decided to participate in The Nail Challenge Collaborative April 2013 Pastel Challenge. What I love about this challenge is that you only have to do four manicures for each theme, which makes it extremely doable.

I decided that for my first manicure that I would try a technique that I've never done successfully before: the gradient.

For my first mani I decided to do I gradient with Illamasqua Scorch and Dior Colorvision Vernis Nail Lacquer in Lilac 398. Lilac is from the Dior Spring 2013 collection and is a limited edition polish exclusive to Sephora.

I started this mani using two coats of Illamasqua Scorch on all fingers except for my ring finger (which I put two coats of Dior Lilac on). Once completely dry I used a makeup sponge (which can be found at any drugstore or supermarket) to start sponging on the other color to my fingers. I can't really explain how to do a gradient very eloquently, but there are plenty of tutorials if you do a search for them.

Both Scorch and Lilac are two coaters, and apply very easily. Scorch is currently my go-to white polish, and is also great for nail art.

I bought my Dior Lila for $24.00 on, and Illamasqua Scorch for $7.00 during a sale at Sephora. The current retail price for Illamasqua is $17.00.

What do you think of my first try at a gradient?
